FREE Motivational Interviewing Training – University of Houston Farish Hall Room 218, Houston, TX 77204 – In this training workshop different levels of learning Motivational Interviewing are broken down into specific sets of skills and competencies expected of training attendees. The following learning objectives will be targeted:
1. Participants will understand the fundamental spirit and principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI).
2. Participants will strengthen empathetic counseling skills and client interaction techniques (OARS) through practice exercises.
3. Participants will learn to recognize client change talk and sustain talk through practice exercises.
4. Participants will learn strategies for increasing client change talk, and adjust strategies when encountering sustain talk through practice exercises.
The workshop is designed to teach initial MI skills (among new learners) and practice MI skills (among those with more experience). Baytown Lakewood Church Back to School Clothing Giveaway – 8 to 12 pm – Lakewood Church of Baytown – 7701 Bayway Dr, Baytown, TX 77520 –

FREE clothes for school aged children.
Lakewood Church of Christ will be holding its 19th annual Back to School Clothing Give-Away on Saturday, August 3rd at 8 a.m. The purpose of the Clothing Give-Away is to help children from the Baytown area in need of clothing to begin the new school year. Each family receives a package of new socks and new underwear for each child, along with gently used clothing and shoes for the entire family.No registration, pre-qualification or financial information is required in order to take advantage of the clothing give-away. Families in need of clothing should bring their children to the Lakewood Church of Christ, 7701 Bayway Drive, in Baytown, on Saturday, August 3rd at 8 a.m. in order to be served.Donations are still being accepted for this year’s Give-Away. Items needed are gently used boy’s and girl’s jeans sizes 4-16; girl’s jeans junior sizes 1-11; children’s and teens’ tennis shoes; and new, unopened packages of children’s socks and/or underwear. In addition, monetary donations are being accepted to purchase any sizes we are short on. Donations may be taken to Lakewood Church of Christ, 7701 Bayway Drive, in Baytown, Monday – Thursday during office hours from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

We will also be accepting donations at our table in the Christmas In July Market at the Baytown Community Center on July 13th, 10 am – 4 pm.

The church not only provides for families on the day of the give-away, but also has clothing available to those in need year round. The congregation works closely with area school counselors to identify those who need additional help. If you are unable to donate for the upcoming give-away, please keep in mind that donations of clothing for school age children are accepted year round.

Lakewood Church of Christ, located at 7701 Bayway Drive, is a family dedicated to praising God, equipping members, serving others, and proclaiming Christ. The clothing give-away is one of many community ministries provided throughout the year. BE THE CHANGE and join hands with us, so that we can better serve our community of mothers that may be struggling with perinatal mood disorders. Perinatal mood disorders are the most prevalent 8-9 months postpartum. Many times mothers are not aware of their postpartum mood disorder and their main source of help is primary care providers, just like you!
