8 Helpful Houston Resources For The Month Of November


Whether you are a Houston case manager, a medical professional or just a local resident, below are 8 helpful resources to connect to in the month of November.

1. RSVP Texas – Free Medical Equipment

This program offers free medical equipment to seniors and those with physical disabilities. They provide equipment like wheel chairs, walkers and shower chairs. This event takes place the 2nd Saturday of each month (9 am to 12pm) and is located at 7100 Grand Blvd, Houston, TX 77054. You can call RSVP Texas at 855.825.7787. 

 

2. Houston Zoo Free On Tuesdays

Every 1st Tuesday of the month, the Houston Zoo offers free admission to your family. This takes place March through December. There is no free admission during the months of January, February, June, July and August. To gain free admission you must arrive anytime between 12 noon and 6pm. 

 

3. KIPP Academy Waitlist Opening

In order to enroll you child into a KIPP school, they will have to enter a lottery. KIPP will open their “lottery list”from November to February 21st. The lottery takes place on March 2nd. For more information about the KIPP enrollment process go here: https://kipptexas.schoolmint.net/welcomeback

4. YES Prep Waitlist Opening

5. Houston Children’s Charity – Christmas Program

The Houston Children’s Charity Christmas Program provides gifts to deserving families in the Houston area. This program is limited therefore its a good idea to submit your application around September. If you or someone you know could benefit from this program complete the application below. Once you complete the application Houston Children’s Charity will follow up with you in 30 – 60 days via email, so make sure you provide an email address that you can access.

6. Medicare Open Enrollment

Medicare Open Enrollment Period takes place from October 15 to December 7th. During this time Medicare clients can potentially enroll in new Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D (prescription) plans. If your premiums have increased or you simply want to change your plan this 3-month window is the time to do so. Medicare Supplement Plans or Medigap Plans can be purchased year round. 

 

7. Thanksgiving SuperFeast at George R. Brown

Each Thanksgiving Day the City Wide Club and City of Houston partner for the annual Superfeast. This event takes place at George R. Brown Convention Center. For more information you can call the City Wide Club at 713.752.2582

Conclusion

With the exception of the Houston Zoo and Medicare Open Enrollment, all of these resources are limited which is why its important to try and apply for them as soon as possible.  Waiting until the last minute could mean missing out on a helpful and free November resource.
